Ava is a genuine restored vintage fairground living waggon. The vehicle used to be taken around the country to the fairs and circuses and provided living accommodation for the fairground family who had commissioned the building of the waggon and worked on the fair. Built in Hay on Wye this van is living history and a relic of the not too distant past when fairs were a much valued seasonal entertainment in rural towns.
The fairground waggon is delightful, with its reminders of 40s and 50s life and offers an unusual holiday for those who like something a bit different. Its location in Bluebell Wood is charming and visitors value the seclusion and privacy of having your very own field for your stay - with the odd sheep for company. The old oak next to the waggon is a favourite nest site for tawny owls, and you may hear their shriek and hoot call in the evenings.
The living accommodation has three rooms and is accessed up a short flight of steps and the little deck. There is a small and efficient working kitchen fitted with fridge, small cooker, kettle, toaster, cupboards and sink. The dining and living room is cosy and comfortable with its original etched glass mirrors and built in cabinets. You can relax by the woodburner in the evenings and eat looking over the woods and meadows surrounding the waggon. The bedroom has a slightly smaller than full size, built in double bed and storage areas, including a large under the bed cupboard - originally the children's sleeping space.
The wetroom is in an adjacent wooden barn and has a shower, wash basin and flush loo. The barn stores some hay for our sheep and there is also space here for you to sit out and enjoy the views. On sunny days the small deck is ideal for eating al fresco.
